I've always been drawn to Abraham Maslow's theory of, "Hierarchy of Needs", where he proposed that people need to meet their basic human needs, in specific order, to reach their full potential, aka "Self Actualization". And the theory applies itself perfectly to the workplace.
Basic Human Needs in the Workplace
Physiological needs (food, water, shelter, rest) = work/life balance, stocked kitchen, proper rest spaces.
Safety needs (safety, security) = proper hvac, safe neighborhood.
Social needs (belonging, love) = collaboration, team activities.
Esteem needs (respect, recognition) = praise, rewards.
Self-actualisation needs (personal growth, fulfillment) = sense of purpose, serenity.
When a workplace has a strong foundation that fulfills staff needs, it empowers them to be the best version of themselves and contribute most meaningfully to the business.
